A proper oasis tucked behind Manor Place. Walworth Garden is a charity that uses horticulture to support the local community — gardening therapy, training programmes, and volunteering opportunities. But you do not need a reason to visit. The plant centre and greenhouses are free and open seven days a week.

They run courses on everything from beekeeping to flower arranging. The plant nursery sells well-priced stock if you have a balcony or windowsill that needs greening up.

Ten minutes on foot from Elephant & Castle station. One of those places most locals walk past without realising it is there. Worth discovering.
