Tibetan Peace Garden
Contemplative garden with a bronze Kalachakra Mandala and a stone pillar inscribed in four languages. Opened by the Dalai Lama in 1999. Free to visit anytime.
Tucked inside Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park, next to the Imperial War Museum, this small garden was opened by the Dalai Lama in 1999. The centrepiece is a bronze cast of the Kalachakra Mandala — a Buddhist symbol of peace — and a stone pillar with an inscription from the Dalai Lama in English, Tibetan, Hindi, and Chinese.
It is a genuinely peaceful spot. Benches, quiet planting, and very few tourists despite the Imperial War Museum being next door. Good for a sit-down and a think.
Free, open all the time, and about an eight-minute walk from Elephant & Castle station via St George’s Road. Worth combining with a visit to the park itself, which has a playground and open green space.
