The Low Line

Free walking route along London's oldest railway viaduct, from Elephant & Castle to London Bridge. Repurposed arches house independent shops, food markets, and community spaces.

The Low Line is a walking route that follows the Victorian railway viaduct from Elephant & Castle through to Bankside and London Bridge. About three kilometres, mostly flat, entirely free. Inspired by New York’s High Line, but at ground level and without the queues.

The arches along the route have been repurposed for independent shops, studios, food vendors, and community spaces. Key stops further along include Borough Market, Maltby Street Market, and Spa Terminus. At the E&C end, Hotel Elephant occupies five arches near Spare Street as a home for local not-for-profit enterprise.

Start at Elephant & Castle and walk north, or pick it up anywhere along the viaduct. No booking, no opening hours, no ticket. Just walk.
