Tucked under the La Vida Loca archway on Elephant Road, La Reina is a Latin American butcher doing non-British cuts: Brazilian picanha, Colombian chorizo, Caribbean vegetables, and South American herbs and condiments.
The early hours make sense. This is where the neighbourhood’s Latin American restaurants and home cooks come for stock. By five in the morning the display is full. Shopping trolleys stacked outside tell you all you need to know about the size of the regular order.
One of the last links to the old Latin Quarter that used to cluster around the Elephant & Castle shopping centre.
