See & Do Newington Butts

Museum of cinema memorabilia housed in the former Lambeth Workhouse where Charlie Chaplin once lived. Tours by appointment, plus screenings and events.

A wonderfully eccentric collection of cinema memorabilia housed in the former Lambeth Workhouse — the same building where Charlie Chaplin spent part of his childhood. Projectors, posters, usherette uniforms, old cinema seats, and thousands of items tracing the history of film in Britain.

Visits are by guided tour only. Book ahead via the website — tours are usually at 11am and 1pm but dates vary. Adults pay 15 pounds, concessions 12. They also host film screenings and special events in the evenings.

About a ten-minute walk from Elephant & Castle station, or five minutes from Kennington. A hidden gem that even most locals have never visited.
