NEW TUBE ENTRANCE TAKES SHAPE.

The reinforced concrete station box for Elephant & Castle’s new Northern line entrance and ticket hall was finished in mid-2025 and handed to TfL. Three new escalators and step-free access are part of the design, along with 30% more passenger capacity.

Tunnelling to connect to the existing Northern line platforms comes next. Completion is expected in 2027. The design also safeguards a future Bakerloo line extension connection, whenever funding arrives for that.

TfL currently lacks funding for the interior fit-out, which puts the 2027 date at some risk. But the structure is in the ground, and that is the expensive part.
