LOCKED OUT. THEN LET BACK IN.

On 1 October 2025, four Castle Square food traders arrived to find their units locked. The reason: unpaid electricity arrears. The traders said the bills had become unaffordable because of poor footfall at the site.

Kaieteur Kitchen, Original Caribbean Spice, El Guambra, and Daddy O’s were all affected. Protests were organised by Latin Elephant and the council stepped in. By 10 October, landlord Get Living had offered new payment plans and reopened the units.

Two traders, Daddy O’s and El Guambra, returned. Kaieteur Kitchen and Original Caribbean Spice decided the repayment terms were not workable and did not come back.
